You probably already know that there is a clock on the display of our Clack® valves, but do you know how important it is for the time to be correct? We're talking current time of day, that's what should always be displayed because, if not, the filter will be regenerating at the wrong time. This may or may not effect your water quality. If the time on the display is significantly off, your filter may be in regen while someone (or something) is using water, whether it be a toilet flushing, sink running, a dishwasher cycle, washing machine, shower, irrigation system, or anything else connected to the water supply.
If water is being used while the filtration is in regen, untreated water (or partially untreated - the contaminants that the regenerating filter would otherwise be treating) will be supplied to the fixture that is running. For example, your Iron Filter valve is set to regenerate at 3:00am, when no one is typically using water. However, a power surge, blip, or "brown out" occurs (which happens quite frequently in WNC) and the time displayed on the valve is now incorrect &/or flashing - let's say 12 hours off (ie: AM instead of PM). This means, your iron filter will now be in regen when it's 3pm instead of 3am. If someone flushes a toilet between 3pm and 3:15pm, iron will likely find its way to the toilet.
It's important, from time to time, to check the time on the valve to make sure it matches the current time of day. If it's off, it's easy to reset (much like resetting the time on your oven). On our Troubleshooting page, we have step by step instructions on how to set the clock on the valve. Please pay attention to the AM and PM setting. We hope this helps and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
