Summer Time

Welcome to summer, y'all! It's that time of year, when it heats up and things start to sweat. Today we're talking high temps, sunny days, humidity and how it affects water filtration. Believe it or not, you're not the only one getting sweaty in this summer heat. Condensation can form on filtration tanks in a warm space. Typically, we see tanks sweat in unconditioned spaces but even basements, garages, crawl spaces, and closets can cause condensation on tanks. However, you're in luck! We sell black neoprene tank jackets that prevent the tanks from sweating profusely. This may be an option for you if your tanks sweat so much that they appear to be leaking. Contact us if you'd like to know more!

In humid environments, salt is more likely to form a solid block in the brine tank, especially when the brine tank is full to the brim. For this reason, we recommend allowing the salt level to stay less than 75% full in the humid months, or in a particularly humid space. If the salt binds together and forms a solid block, bridging occurs (the salt level appears to stay the same because it stops settling in the tank correctly). Water softeners need salt to clean themselves (regenerate). If the salt doesn't feed correctly, the proper brine solution may not form and may prevent the water softener from getting the job done.

Believe it or not, the sun can damage filtration. Drain lines that exit a building can be exposed to the sun's UV rays, which can damage certain materials. Drain lines are normally insulated but, depending on the type of insulation and the type of pipe, the sun's ultraviolet light can break down the materials over time. Technology has come a long way and, today, we use a UV resistant drain line and insulation, for this reason. At each service appointment, our technicians inspect drain lines exiting buildings and replace old, less robust, materials. If you're concerned with your drain line, brine tank, or backwashing filtration tanks, contact us and we will take care of you! Beat the summer heat and protect your investment. Stay cool, WNC.
