It's not uncommon - it happens all the time. People contact us when something is noticeably wrong with their water - such as staining, mineral deposits, sediment buildup, a weird taste, color, or odor, etc. but it's often the unseen behavior of water that does the most damage. Low pH (acidic) water is a common issue in western North Carolina, as is low TDS. These characteristics of water are what make it aggressive. Acidic water is corrosive to metal, including copper plumbing, metal fittings, appliances, and fixtures. Too many times, the problem persists, going unnoticed - until fittings eventually form pinhole leaks and, at that point, it can be very expensive to fix.

Low pH and low TDS water can actually be noticeable, in some cases. Buildings with copper plumbing will sometimes have turquoise(blue/green) staining as a result of low pH. If you fill a plastic water bottle with untreated tap water and let it sit for 24 hours or so, the water may actually have a chemical or plastic taste. Aggressive water wants to dissolve anything it comes in contact with. It's important to address the issue before it's too late... and that's where we come in - we're here to help!
